Physical exercise is any bodily activity that enhances or maintains physical fitness and overall health or wellness. It is performed for various reasons. These include strengthening muscles and the cardiovascular system, honing athletic skills, weight loss or maintenance and for enjoyment. Frequent and regular physical exercise boosts the immune system, and helps prevent the "diseases of affluence" such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes and obesity. It also improves mental health, helps prevent depression, helps to promote or maintain positive self-esteem, and can even augment an individual's sex appeal or body image, which again is also linked with higher levels of self-esteem. Childhood obesity is a growing global concern and physical exercise may help decrease the effects of childhood obesity in developed countries.

A. Hi. First of all there is a huge amount of info you can learn from my site, so please check it out. Especially the article called: "This is how to lose weight, be fit & get the body you want!" Otherwise, just few points I will add here for you before you go over there: 1/ Nutrition (that's food) is responsible for 90% of the result. This means if you work out lots but eat lots of junk, don't expect much. 2/ Ultimately it is muscle which will bring you over the turning point. So building muscle is key. 3/ Remember, any movement at all for a minimum 60 minutes duration is great. I don't care if you wanna roll around on the floor, do jump rope, go run in the street or keep kicking the wall in your house. As long as you MOVE and get your… [cont.]

What exercise would be good for someone who hates doing physical activities?
Q. I'm really not into sports. I've tried badminton, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, and swimming, and I don't like all of them. I've tried going to the gym, but I just can't motivate myself to make it a habit. I'm trying to slim down a bit but I don't know what exercise is good for me since I easily get bored with normal workouts and stuff. Can you recommend any fun sport/exercise/workout technique?

A. Getting a Wii and even a Wii fit will really help you. It's really fun, and every game will help you to tone some of the parts of your body and lose some weight. If you get a dancing game or Wii Fit, it will help you even more. Wii Sports is also really good (mainly for your hand muscles!) You can also walk, or cycle which is also a lot of fun. Another suggestion is to turn on your radio and just start dancing! You will lose a lot of calories before you can even understand it!

How is exercise good for the heart if overworking the heart is bad?
Q. Experts say that exercise is great for the heart. On the other hand, they also say that when people are overweight, have high blood pressure or diabetes their heart works too hard. Then how is it that exercising and making your heart work hard a good thing? Can someone explain this contradiction?
Asked by bombastic - Sat Dec 29 20:18:28 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Think about it - Exercise is done for a short period of time; it is during this period that the heart conditions itself by becoming more efficient and powerful. In the time afterwards, the heart slows down to its normal rate and becomes slower to "rest" at night. When someone is overweight, however, the heart is in an exercised condition all the time, with no rest during the night or day, remember, the heart can withstand great levels of stress, but not for any prolonged period of time, like several months or years. Eventually the heart will weaken, as with any organ that is overstressed, and enlarge to try and become more efficient. This enlargement is not better for the body and eventually causes more severe heart failure.
