What is the normal AFL practices for clubs in getting new players?
Q. what is the AFL rules, ways or processes in getting new players for clubs? Is it normal for a club to offer a player to train, and during the trainning period (before any employment contracts were signed), the player injured himself by taking certain medicines or drugs, then the club terminate any further training? In such case, is there any contracts between the club and player? If the player cannot play any games for 12 months, does the club owe any obligations to the player or vice versa? Any similar cases happened before?

A. In the AFL, they have a system called the draft. You get picks depending on where you finish on the ladder at the end of the season, so 16th gets pick 1, 15th gets pick 2 etc. They have a rule called the "Priority Pick". If a team wins accumulates 20.5 points in a season (5 wins=20 points) they get another pick. if the team that finishes bottom wins 3 games for the year, they get picks 1,17 and every subsequent pick is based on whether another team gets a priority pick. A team may get 1,17,33,50 etc. Draft picks can be traded for a player already on a list. There is two draft systems, the nab afl rookie draft where players from U/18's and reserve teams chosen by the AFL are picked by the clubs. Any listed player who is out of contract or a… [cont.]

How long will it be before the AFL administrators get the game's rules right?
Q. Aussie Rules has been going for 150 years now. Now the main competition is the AFL & it's administrators make new rules. When are they going to stop tampering with the rules? Look at the recent interchange farce. There is an old adage that goes somthing along the lines of, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" Do you see the rugby codes dramatically changing their rules every year - even mid-year? The answer is a resounding NO.

A. As you are a Rugby League supporter, normally i wouldn't agree with anything you say, but seeing as you asked a pretty serious question, I totally agree with you. This is the kinda thing which you Rugby Leagiuns can ask 'why' although as Rugby League is celebrating it's hundreadth year, you think, their have been hardly any rules changed and with the AFL only celebrating 50 more years, this contreversial change can only meen one thing, revenge. The League committy could ruin the AFL's dream by only one click of the finger, they can just say, " No, weve decided too keep ANZ stadium" but all that woould do is stuff up the Leagues money problems, but cmon Australian football committies, THINK, long answer cut short, step up AFL.

Do you think AFL clubs will ever become available for private ownership?
Q. A la Chelsea and Manchester City in the EPL in recent years? Do you think AFL clubs will be available to be bought by private owners and ownership groups? Would you like this and what do you think it would mean for the AFL, clubs, and supporters?

A. interstate clubs are the only ones that can be owned by an individual or a syndicate. the sydney swans was owned originally by dr Geoffrey edlestone (i hope i spelt his name correctly) in its earlier days when it went to sydney. the brisbane bears was owned by paul crownin ex matlock police(boy i really am getting old) with him being the head of a syndicate when that team first started. i hope this information helps you. edit} thanks susie c i had forgotten about that. boy we must of had money to burn back then.

What do you think of AFL footballer Kouta as a Gladiator?
Q. He is to go under the name of Kouta the Greek God, & wear the Big V, in the coming C7 production of Gladiators. That show is about as credible as professional wrestling. Anthony Koutoufides should therefore fit in very well because he has always been a bit of a poser. In fact most AFL footballers are up themselves.

Does the AFL have double Standards when it comes to helping clubs financially?
Q. In my opinion yes. If Port Adelaide was a victorian side the AFL would bail them out like they did with the doggies and kangaroos. I'm a crows supporter .
Asked by Enforcer - Wed Mar 18 09:46:11 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yeah, they sure do. Port wont get half the deal the Vic clubs got. The AFL looked after Sydney & Brisbane to get them established in non-AFL states. The Vics have always been jealous of SA & as the AFL is Vic controlled, Port will have to beg & crawl to get anywhere.

How long do you think that the AFL competition will last?
Q. I mean how long do you think it will be before the AFL competition ceases to exist, after being taken over by the other major football codes. It will happen, eventually. What year do you think?
Asked by Enforcer - Tue Sep 22 22:09:18 2009 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Hard to say. It will go at some stage. Maybe within the next 50 years. The Australian/Irish concoction has already been given the flick because it was pretty boring to watch. Australian Rules at its present concept is getting more boring to watch every year.

Is there a more unpopular team in the AFL than the Adelaide Crows?
Q. I know they make up for their unpopularity by being the team that are most up themselves in the AFL. Plus most of their fans follow suit. Overall do fans collectively regard them as the worst in the comp? I reckon they even leave Collingwood for dead.

Is the media trying to destroy rugby league in favour of AFL and Union?
Q. I don't know where to start with all the stories on the news and internet of players in the NRL getting drunk and sexually assaulting women. But I mean surely AFL and Union players are not that innocent either with the media keeping stories of sexual assault or drunkenness related to AFL and Union quiet.
Asked by Sam D - Wed Jul 1 05:43:48 2009 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They didn't keep Wayne Carey or Ben Cousins quiet. Nobody's immune. The media are lock a pack of Wolves looking to devour their next kill in the pursuit of ratings. It doesn't excuse the player's behaviour, but what will sell more papers, Hazem El Masri's retirement of those young Roosters assaulting women. It's train wreck value.

Why do people actually support AFL ? To most people in NSW and Sydney its a boring fumbling game?
Q. Seriously this AFL thing has to end, the game is a joke, borring and fumbling, no real hits or tackles, no structure and goes on and on and on for ever, boooring ! I can't believe how well it's accepted down South and elsewhere, are people not tough enough or disciplined enough to play League down there ?
Asked by Wayne A - Fri Nov 9 19:30:15 2007 - - 16 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, I agree. Aussie Rules is becoming a game just for kids. With nearly as many umpires on the field as players, & double the amount of cameras, a player only has to say 'boo' & he gets rubbed out. The game has lost all the muscle & the bit of biff that went on. Not many players reach 30 years of age nowdays - the teams are full of kids because it is less a contact sport than basketball is. The umps pull the game up as much as is done in netball! The powers to be don't want men involved - they are pandering to the female audience. They have female umpires; female boundary riders; female sports presenters...soon it will be female players!

Also, get yourself familiar with Aussie Rules footy related shows such as - The footy show - Before the game - The sunday footy show - Game Day Because these shows have players that are on there. il start you off, some popular names are Chris Judd (Carlton) Brendan Fevola (Carlton) Buddy Franklin (Hawks) Gary Ablett (Geelong) Daniel Kerr (WCE) Dean Cox (WCE) matthe pavlich (freo)

Q. What a shocker! No wonder we haven;'t heard from her since. One of the AFL's biggest big time blunders. Who was she - does anyone know. I think it was one of the pre-season games. She was so bad I had to watch the game with the volume off.

A. Ha ha ... some politically correct imagineless person has taken offence at your use of the term sheila! Get over it pal, whoever you are. Anyway, I called her worse names than that when I heard her commentating. I don't know where she is but as someone suggested in here - she should be banished to commentating SAFL matches.

A. The last game I went to was the Showdown this year, and I had this woman who would of been in her 60's barracking for the Crows sitting behind me. Every 5 seconds she would scream something out or try to bag Port, after a while her voice got real annoying. She had one of those screams where it would just make your ear go numb, it felt like she was screaming right in to it.

Q. I recently bought a 100-400mm zoom lens and was devastated when I was not granted entry to either the Australian Open tennis or an A League soccer match with it. Nothing allowed over 200mm as it is considered professional. I am wondering whether this is the same for cricket and AFL, but I am hoping it is not. Thank you for your time.

A. AFL: open, flowing game w/o offside rule. NFL: all set-piece, with blocking. Two different beasts. It would be interesting to see one at WR, though. But would he have to have elite sprinter's speed, though.

A. I was playing footy for my side in melbourne's SE suburbs one day and we had this umpire turn up that stunk of bourbon, it was a senior game so the game started at 2pm and he still stunk of it. Anyway we were winning by about 30 goals to 2, (seriously) and one of our blokes gave away a free kick, they kicked a goal, I was Captain so i asked what it was for, he went off his tree and awarded another kick in the Goal square, so they kicked another goal, then on the way back to the center square, i said to him, you can't do that, i am allowed (being skipper) to ask you what the free was for, to my amazement, he started screaming, "another free kick in the goal square", i shut my mouth as i knew i couldn't win, they got 3 goals from one… [cont.]
